It is only appropriate that rising superstar V MI graces the online cover for March as he not only perfectly embodies the best of the most recent generation of Mulawa Chief Sires, but he is also the current banner carrier for the programme in the show-ring with an undefeated record of achievement.

Representing an incredible thirteen generations of Mulawa breeding vision on both sides of his stellar pedigree, V MI is first and foremost a direct tail-female descendant of the programme’s most successful and incomparably influential dam family of Karmaa (Kaborr x AN Marieta by AN Malik), immortalised and still beloved as the ‘Queen of Mulawa’. Foundress of the largest family of female descendants in the Mulawa broodmare band, Karmaa is also the source of Mulawa’s most important homebred chief sires – icons such as Klass (by TS al Malik) and Allegiance MI (Magnum Forty Four x Audacia by Parkview Audacious) – as well as international achiever Kavalle MI (Gazal al Shaqab x Karess by Magnum Forty Four).

The invaluable branch of the Karmaa family through which V descends is that of Mulawa Kara Mia MI (by GLF Apollo), a WAHO Trophy Recipient for Australia and a grand matron of the breed who is still thriving at thirty years of age while dutifully nannying the most recent generation of yearling fillies at Alabama Stud in the Hunter Valley, home to Mulawa’s thriving breeding programme. Masterfully combined with the imperative influences of international sires of significance Emerald J (QR Marc x Emandoria by Gazal al Shaqab), Klass and Magnum Psyche (Padrons Psyche x A Fancy Miracle by Sasaki) in the second, third and fourth generations descending tail female respectively, through superlative dam Elegance MI (Emerald J x Klassical Elegance MI by Klass), V MI boasts a cosmopolitan blend of the most universally respected bloodlines from around the world.

Paternally, V is unquestionably the premier progeny of his illustrious sire Vangelis MI, another homebred international icon with an impressive show record and matchless reputation. Named Gold Champion Junior Colt at both the Scottsdale International and the Arabian Open in Central Park overseas, Vangelis bookended his stellar show career with two unforgettable Australian National Championships, first as an era-defining Yearling Colt in 2015 and most definitively as a Senior Stallion in 2019 at just six years of age. An undeniable son of the late legend DA Valentino (Versace x DA Love by Padrons Psyche), Vangelis is the most famous male descendant of another of the marquis Mulawa dam families, the ‘Family of Angels’ descending from foundation matron M Angelique (Vision x Abanda by Banderol). Famed the world over for producing such icons as Valentino’s Angel MI, Vangelis’ full sister now proudly owned by Flaxman Arabians in the Belgium, and Albidayer Stud’s treasured broodmatron A Vision MI (by Allegiance MI), whose dam Always Valentine MI is, most remarkably, another of Vangelis’ full siblings, the M Angelique dam family has gained further global acclaim this past year as the source of the inimitable World and All Nations’ Cup Gold Champion Yearling Filly Durrat Albidayer (Jyar Meia Lua x A Vision MI).

As Mulawa celebrates its sixth decade of achievement and uncompromising dedication to the Arabian breed, we will reflect back across the decades in the months ahead on TheArabianMagazine.Com by shining the spotlight on the chief sires, including those imported from overseas, those proudly bred at home, and those introduced via frozen semen in the new millennium, to chart the progress and evolution of the stud’s success and acclaim. This retrospection promises to be a fascinating journey of both triumph and tragedy, and a true celebration of breeding vision, unwavering perseverance and resolute faith, and of what can be accomplished with a little ingenuity, determination and good luck in a remote corner of the planet where good genetics are improbably hard to acquire and nurture. That journey begins with Ambition (Bask x Bint Ambara by Comet), Mulawa’s original import from the United States and their ‘reason for being’ nearly fifty years later, whose story will launch this groundbreaking series of in-depth profiles right here at TheArabianMagazine.com.

The recent ascent of both the Australasian Arabian International Championships and the Emirates Arabian Horse Global Cup at the spectacular Willinga Park in Australia has also contributed to the rising acclaim of V MI as an imposing show horse. Having already been named Gold Champion twice at the International Championships, as a Yearling Colt during the inaugural event in 2023 and as Junior Colt this past February, as well as a unanimous Gold Junior Champion in his one and only appearance in the Emirates Arabian Horse Global Cup, V MI has justifiably earned the most successful show record of any purebred Arabian in the country at both premier international events. Headlining a show team that has earned more titles than any other at both events over the past three seasons, Team Mulawa continues to set the standard for achievement within the breed Australasian-wide. Several of Mulawa’s most accomplished homebred superstars who were honoured as Gold, Silver and Bronze Champion at the 2025 Australasian Arabian International Championships (AAIC) and Emirates Arabian Horse Global Cup Australasian Championship (EAHGC-AC) are featured in the photographs below.

For Greg, Julie, and Jane Farrell, the success of the Mulawa Community is of primary importance. Encompassing a growing group of breeders and owners all across Australasia and around the world, the Mulawa Community continues to bring great pride to the programme as generations of horses bearing both the ‘MI’ Mulawa brand of excellence and descending from Mulawa-bred ambassadors steadily flourish in breeding programmes and show homes representing the best of the breed. Responsible for the greatest number of purebred Arabian horses currently competing in Australia, Mulawa can proudly boast genetic connections to more than 40% of the competitors at both prestigious events, including a multitude of Mulawa-bred and Mulawa-related Gold, Silver and Bronze Champion medallists in every single division of the both the AAIC and the EAHGC-AC. For the Farrell Family, there is no more rewarding outcome to a lifetime dedicated to and spent enjoyably with the Arabian horse than to see so many people from all walks of life finding happiness and success with horses proudly boasting Mulawa connections.
