Poland is synonymous with Arabian horses, not just through the breeders in the country, but through the many talented artists that live there. In The Arabian Breeders’ Magazine, we celebrate some of these artists, who help capture the heart of Poland through their brush. Sharing part one here, we look at the art of Małgorzata Świertok.
My name is Małgorzata Świertok, and I live in Częstochowa, Poland. For as long as I can remember, drawing and painting have always been my favourite pastime. Later, I continued my passion during my studies.
Horses have always been the main subject of my works. They can express any feelings: love, good, evil, happiness or anger, depending on the form we give them.
I have painted various horses, but Arabians always reminded me of these beautiful horses from fairy tales. Their delicacy, harmonious structure, unusual eyes, and a gait that makes it seem as if they will leave the ground and fly away. How could I ignore such a phenomenon?
I remember my impressions when I saw them for the first time. It was in Janów Podlaski, during the Pride of Poland. I will never forget my emotion at the sight of these beautiful creatures.
Arabian horses have been present in my works for a long time. I create the shape with my delicate, sensitive line, with attention to details of the anatomical structure, as well as taking into account the character of the horse. I also like a free line, which I use to create the shape of a horse in a few strokes of a brush or pencil.
Arabian horses appear in my drawings, watercolours, pastels and oil paintings. I often use oriental motifs in compositions with Arabian horses; that’s where they come from, after all.
I have presented my works in Poland and abroad. The works are in private collections in Europe, the USA, Australia and the Middle East.
Horses are a lifelong topic because they are a part of my soul. I want to constantly improve my artistic skills because we learn throughout our lives.
