Omega Alpha Healthy Horse Award Presented to LH Primadontta at 2017 Sport Horse Nationals

Raleigh, NC (October 18, 2017)—As a leading producer of natural equine health supplements, Omega Alpha Pharmaceuticals appreciates the care that is required to keep a horse in top condition. In recognition of that effort, the company presents the Omega Alpha Healthy Horse Award to horses at competitions across the country whose performance, appearance, and disposition reflects an overall healthiness. At the 2017 Arabian Sport Horse Nationals in Raleigh, North Carolina, a stunning grey mare named LH Primadontta impressed judges and show officials alike not only with her outstanding performance but also her excellent physical condition. Omega Alpha was proud to award this exceptional mare with tote bag full of their premium all-natural equine products and a commemorative neck sash.

When notified that seven-year-old Arabian mare, LH Primadontta (nickname “Madonna”) had won the Omega Alpha Healthy Horse Award, trainer Victoria Shaw was thrilled. “We are super excited about winning the award!” remarked Shaw.

Madonna is owned by Virginia and Jean Stammetti and is kept in training at Astoria Equestrian Center in Boonville, North Carolina. She was shown at Sport Horse Nationals by her trainer Victoria Shaw and amateur rider Jena Westmoreland and won three National Championship titles. Under trainer Victoria Shaw, she was Champion in the Arabian Sport Horse Show Hack as well as the Arabian Sport Horse Mares In-Hand Dressage Type. Jena Westmoreland rode her for the win in the Arabian Sport Horse Under Saddle Dressage Amateur to Ride.

She’s one of those horses that tries the hardest for you,” said Westmoreland of Madonna. “She gives 100% all the time.” Westmoreland credits her win not just to an extremely willing and talented horse, but also to the program that trainer Victoria Shaw has developed for Madonna. “We did a lot of work throughout the year and show season to get there. I’m definitely blessed to have a great trainer,” she said.

Trainer Victoria Shaw of Astoria Equestrian Center believes that mental health for her horses is where it all begins. “The most important thing about training a horse is that they stay mentally healthy,” Shaw said. “If they’re not mentally healthy it doesn’t matter what you can do with them physically.” Shaw noted that part of the program at Astoria Equestrian Center is that all horses are turned out with other horses for twelve hours a day and allowed to behave like horses.

When it comes to conditioning, Shaw takes an individual approach with each horse, and Madonna is no exception. “They don’t all have the same needs,” she said. For Madonna specifically, Shaw noted that she is extremely well trained, so conditioning is really all she needs to get ready to show. “This mare goes back into conditioning 60 days before show season starts. We do a lot of outside work and hill work.”

For nutrition, Madonna is kept on a high protein diet developed by Shaw. She eats a high quality grain that Shaw designed herself and a high protein Orchard grass hay. Ample turnout also ensures plenty of lush, nutritious grass.

Omega Alpha commends Madonna’s owner, trainer, and riders for their attention to the health of this mare. Her excellent mental, physical, and nutritional health was certainly reflected in her performance and appearance at Sport Horse Nationals. Omega Alpha is proud to honor deserving recipients like Madonna with the Omega Alpha Healthy Horse Award.
