Al Khamsa 2016 Annual Convention August 2016

Al Khamsa 2016 Annual Convention August 2016

Al Khamsa, the non-profit group of Arabian horse enthusiasts that seek to preserve the Bedouin Arabian for future generations, will be holding its Annual Convention on 26-28 August 2016, in beautiful, colourful Denver, Colorado. Mark your calendars now.

The theme will be Maintaining Genetic Diversity in Closed Breeding Groups.

All convention events will be held at the Adams County Regional Park and Fairgrounds just 25 minutes from Denver International Airport. The host hotel, the Hampton Inn Brighton, 992 Platte River Blvd, Brighton, CO 80601, is only a five-minute drive away. Recreational vehicle (RV) hook-ups are available at the fairgrounds so load your trailers and bring your horses for the Fantasia and some beautiful riding in the nearby Rocky Mountains!

A full itinerary of events is planned, as follows:

Friday

  • Open barns

  • Late afternoon: Social hour and registration

  • Evening: Van Vleet Ranch heritage and vintage Arabian horse films.

Saturday

  • Long-time horse owners from a variety of Al Khamsa breeding groups will share insights on their efforts to preserve bloodlines.

  • Fantasy Breeding Round Table – Attendees will work in small groups to select a mating for a mare from a few stallions and then a second generation breeding from the resulting fantasy-bred filly. A great chance to understand breeding selection from genotype and phenotype.

  • Presentation by Steve Foxworth of the Equine Lameness Prevention Organisation.

  • Fantasia of Al Khamsa horses.

  • Saturday night banquet, silent auction and live auction of unique treasures in every price range.

  • Morning: Rare Bloodlines – code red and code orange horses.

  • Round-table discussion on results of the fantasy breedings.

  • Afternoon and Evening: Open barns

Sunday

We look forward to seeing all of you in Colorado for a fun, horse-filled informative weekend with other Al Khamsa enthusiasts!
