While The Arabian Magazine turned 10 at the end of 2014, it would be the February edition for the following year that saw our 10th anniversary issue. Gracing the cover for the stallion Emerald J (QR Marc x Emandoria), then owned by Al Muawd Stud in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We share this special cover and Emerald J’s story, as written at the time. Enjoy this one.

Oh, what a cover horse for the 10th anniversary edition! Gracing this special issue is a young stallion that is fast becoming renowned the world over. The horse in question is Emerald J, a five-year-old stallion with one of the most beautiful pedigrees in the modern breeding world.

Emerald J QR Marc Emandoria Jadem Arabians Al Muawd Stud The Arabian Magazine Emerald J was bred by Christine Jamar of Jadem Arabians in Belgium and, at the end of last year, made waves as he was sold to Al Muawd Stud from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This typey, showy, charismatic bay is sure to cross well with the mares of Al Muawd. His first foals for them will be eagerly anticipated – not least as Emerald J progeny are already excelling in the show-ring, commanding championships at title shows across Europe. Emerald J himself has already taken titles in Europe and the Middle East, including Gold Champion Colt at Al Khalediah Arabian Horse Festival.

In an industry where the sire of any horse is still considered to be so important, Emerald J is refreshing in that he is revered because of his dam more than anything else. He is out of the classical beauty Emandoria, the 2005 World Champion Yearling Filly and the 2013 European Triple Crown Mare. Now 11 years old, Emandoria is part of the Michalów State Stud of Poland’s revered ‘E’ line, going back through her dam, Emanda, to the legendary Emigracja (Palas x Emisja). Emandoria is also well-known for being one of the beautiful collection of Gazal Al Shaqab daughters bred in Poland, as well as for making history by winning titles across the US, Europe and the Middle East.

Emerald J

Looking to Emerald J’s sire, the influence of Gazal Al Shaqab comes through once more as he is by none other than QR Marc, the 2012 Abu Dhabi, Dubai International, All Nations’ Cup and World Champion Stallion. The success of crossing this superb 10-year-old over the Polish mares has been proven time and time again in the show-ring.

Al Muawd also has two Emerald J progeny to incorporate into their breeding programme. His two-year-old son, Gallardo J (ex Gomera J by Ekstern out of Georgia) and the two-year-old filly Mounira J (ex Magnificent Lady J by Extreme out of Mauhiba) have taken titles including standing Yearling Champions in Chantilly. Both were named European Yearling Champions, with Mounira also adding the Arabian Futurity Yearling Championship title to her name. Indeed, only two Emerald J progeny were shown at the Europeans, both going home with golden titles.

Emerald J

With all three horses joining Al Muawd’s already strong collection of Arabians, they have a strong and inspiring team to show across Europe and the Middle East this year. While Gallardo has been leased from his breeder, Christine Jamar, he, with Mounira, will campaign in the show-ring while their sire conquers in the breeding barn. 2015 and beyond are sure to be noteworthy for this influential stud located outside of Riyadh. We wish them, and Emerald J, much success for the future; there is no doubt that exciting times lie ahead.
